Roxx's Session Chatter

Matt Nathanson

1:30pm was early for Matt Nathanson, but we were so happy he and guitarist Aaron Tapp could join us in the Moxie Java Listener Lounge!

Matt's new album is “Last of the Great Pretenders.” In our interview, Matt mentioned his love for Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders. My friend Dale says that Chrissie Hyde was inspired by The Great Pretender song likely by Jackson Browne, so it all comes around!

Matt Nathanson has a great sense of humor, and is a very accomplished songwriter. He says he doesn’t care about reviews. He likes the internet more each day, because of the “non-gatekeeper aspect.”

When it comes to charities, he likes to do functions for Alzheimer walks, or money for school lunch programs.

As for who he is listening to now, he gave us a great list of names. The 1975 . Laura Marling  (which I’m SO excited about, as this is my latest download as well!) Jake Bugg. The Joy Formidable.  Portugal the Man. Dr. Dog.

Matt joked about the freedom he has on stage during a headlining tour. He gets to do things like ride a white Bengal tiger…or wear a whipped cream bra.

This is Matt’s next single, about a waitress he loves, but doesn’t know. The upcoming official video is written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait. Here is our live River session.
