Roxx's Session Chatter

Michael Kiwanuka

  • Print

The first day of March brings us beautiful weather, and beautiful voices. The Alabama Shakes concert sold out long ago, and it’s a night many of us look forward to. One of the openers, Michael Kiwanuka joined us in-studio. Gus Seyffert may be a familiar face playing bass guitar, he also plays for the Black Keys!

Michael told us his parents were from Uganda and had no music when he was growing up, but his music came from friends who listened to The Kings, Beatles, The Stones, and Hendrix.

He has been quoted as saying “Music is something to do to keep my soul warm.” Michael originally wanted to be a session guitarist, but his friends set up a gig he didn’t want to do. The feedback was good, so he kept performing!
