Matt Hires arrived on a chilly fall afternoon, after leaving the comfort of 98 degrees in Tampa. He flew in to perform for us in-studio, and to play at the Barber to Boise race. He’s been working on new music, the song above is from a new yet untitled album he will release in January.
It’s funny how Tim brought up the subjects of mix tapes, and Matt says he uses a photo of one for his upcoming single.
After performing for us, Matt made a trip to Boise Rock School. Several of our music groups are doing this now while in town, it’s so much fun for both the kids and artists.
You can see Matt Hires even if you’re not in the Barber to Boise race. Just bring a couple cans of food to donate, and show up by 10 a.m. at Bronco Stadium near the Varsity Center. As for personal non-profit interests, Matt says to check out Rosa Loves. He mentions one of their projects was raising money for a poor fisherman to get a new boat, most of these fundraisers are done through t-shirt sales on their site.
When asked how he was doing and what he was up to lately, Matt looked reflective for a bit and said, “A lot, but not so much, at the same time.” It seemed like there might be more stories behind those words.
He’s always kind to give us great songs during the River Sessions, and now the X Men competitions have begun. Blame Calobo:)
