It’s a great day when 7 people come in to do music for us. Calobo is a very familiar name from the 90’s, we were so glad to hear they’d regrouped for a few shows, including Boise. David Andrews has been local and played with other artists over the years, but it was great to hear him back In his element. An extra nice surprise was having 2 members of the Decemberists with Calobo. Nate Query gave us some wonderful string bass. He and Jenny Conlee-Drizos are in The Decemberists, and Black Prairie. The new Black Prairie album is worth checking out!
Last year on tour, you might remember Nickelcreek’s Sarah Watkins filling in for Jenny while she was healing. May of 2011, Jenny was diagnosed with breast cancer. Tim asked her if she is healthy now, she said she is but it won’t be official until 5 years from now and she has the next tests. Jenny has a great energy about her. Along with music, she’s got a great sense of humor and did some acting in the wonderful series Portlandia. I can’t believe I’m in the same room as the girl from…
Our Listener Lounge was filled with SO much talent and harmony.
Side projects are fun, aren’t they? We found this for our friend David Andrews. :) It was so nice to see his friendly face back in studio.
Mandolin player Caleb Klauder is also in a group called Foghorn Stringband. The folks starting this group met at our own National Oldtime Fiddle Festival, in Weiser, Idaho! Caleb also does some great work in The Cajun Country Revival.
Calobo played Boise in the first of 3 great northwest performances. They are welcome back anytime!
